Changes to International Student Regulations

July 14, 2020

Dear members of the Saint Louis University community,

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has rescinded the previously-announced regulation changes that prevented international students studying in the U.S. from taking exclusively online classes. Though we are still working to understand all guidance that could affect these students, this is good news.

While we are planning and hoping for a return to mostly in-person classes this fall, the reality is that we do not know what the virus will require of us during the coming weeks. The thought that any shift would harm our international students’ ability to continue the pursuit of their degree goes against our mission and Ignatian values.

I want to reiterate what I said in my message to you last week: Our international students make SLU a better place to live, work, learn and worship. They are always welcome here at Saint Louis University.

The International Services team is available to students and families for additional questions. You can reach them at 314-977-2318 or internationalservices@slu.edu.

Stay safe and be well,

Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D.
