Colloquium/Speaker Series

The Midwest Consortium – Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (MW-IC CAE) at Saint Louis University sponsors an annual security and Intelligence/STEM colloquium planned with rural and under-resourced consortium partners.

The colloquium builds on SLU’s proximity to military installations including Scott Air Force Base and Fort  Leonard Wood, as well as local partners in the intelligence community and local industry.

The colloquium features presentations by leading intelligence community officials and experts. Its overarching objective is to develop and disseminate a research agenda for an integrated approach to the study of intelligence/national security issues that intersect STEM disciplines.

2023 MW-IC CAE Colloquium on Social Media Intelligence and National Security

Spring 2023

The 2023 MW-IC CAE Colloquium on Social Media Intelligence and National Security will be held in spring 2023 at Saint Louis University.

The colloquium will provide a unique and timely opportunity to accelerate the application of social media analysis bringing together private industry, higher education researchers, and the intelligence community around the shared goal of understanding how various STEM disciplines can be applied to analyzing social media intelligence (SOCMINT).

Conference Objectives

  • Provide an overview of the social media intelligence enterprise in the context of national security and STEM disciplines
  • Provide pragmatic information for steps that can be taken by the intelligence community to understand social media as a unique source of intelligence information
  • Delineate roles intelligence community analysts, industry, and academics play in integrating SOCMINT into analysis
  • Establish a list of priorities for future work in SOCMINT

Speakers and Events

An opening keynote by a senior intelligence community leader will kick off the conference. A student keynote speaker and a student poster presentation area are planned. Additional speakers are to be determined.

The conference will conclude with a panel discussion including industry partners. Video recordings of the conference presentations as well as slides and other meeting materials will be made available online.
